Frequently Asked Questions

What do you believe about the Bible?

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired word. We believe it to be inerrant and not just true, but the standard of all truth. We view the Bible as our guide for life and doctrine. Therefore, our normal practice is to preach expositionally (going straight through books of the Bible). For more information see our Statement of FaithThe Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy.

When do your meetings start and what should I expect?

Our service starts at 10 AM, with a casual dress and environment. For more information see “What to Expect.”

How would you describe your beliefs?

We are evangelical which means we hold the Bible as God’s word and the gospel of Jesus Christ as the only way for someone to be saved. We are essentially Reformed in our theology. This means we see God as the center of our doctrinal and theological understanding. We are continuationist, meaning we see the need from scripture to be in constant pursuit of God in his Holy Spirit.

How are your pastors trained?

Nearly all of our pastors at SGC have completed the training offered at the Sovereign Grace Ministries Pastors College. The program provides academic instruction with an emphasis on pastoral care and spiritual growth. Subsequent to completing the course load, each pastor is further evaluated in the course of a one-year internship.

Is your church affiliated with a group of churches?

Yes, we are a church affiliated with Sovereign Grace Ministries. Sovereign Grace Ministries is a group of about 70 churches in the United States and abroad who are convinced that the best way to spread the gospel is by planting local churches. For more information about Sovereign Grace Ministries see here.

SGC is friends with any group or organization of churches that preach the gospel. It would be impossible to list all the organizations we appreciate, but see our blogroll on the sidebar for a sampling of groups.
