Relate 2013: The Banner
The purpose of this years Relate conference was to bring young adults together from different churches and cities to get to know other Christians whom they might never get to know. We wanted this fellowship to happen as we hung out together, worshiped together, and heard the preached Word together all under the one Banner of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
This Thursday at Core, Adam Prather preached from Colossians 1:28-29. Continuing in our GO Series, Adam gave some points on what it means to “proclaim.”
Jason began a new series called “GO” this Thursday at our monthly Core meeting, which is more than just about evangelizing, but what it means to be an evangelist. It’s not just what you “do,” but who you “are.”
The WALK series can be summed up in one sentence: “Having been justified by God and being sanctified in Christ, train yourself in godliness.” Jason finished up the series with the third part “train yourself in godliness” from 1 Timothy 4:7-8. showing us that Christians are called to train themselves in godliness through obedience to God, instead of relying on excuses and silly myths of legalism.
For February’s Core, Jon Payne came to give a recap of the Relate conference, which took place in January. After the brief recap, the remainder of the time was devoted to Q&A on the topic of romance and practical applications. For full messages from Relate, visit the Relate website here.
This past weekend our church and the tfs ministry were host to Relate 2012. This 2-day conference brought singles age 17+ from SGC, neighboring states, and local Phoenix churches together to look at the topic of relationships and romance. The three sessions were taught by Jon Payne, who sought to direct our focus to the only source of advice we need when it comes to this area of our lives–God’s word. Jason Hansen led worship with the tfs band and a few additions from other churches. And we can’t forget “The Jordans” (Jordan Johnson and Jordan Morales) who did the “announcements” throughout.
You can listen to the messages by going to the Relate website here. Pictures will be posted soon on the Relate website, but here is a preview of what the conference was like. We look forward to doing this again at Relate 2013 in January next year!
What does being sanctified in Christ mean? This Thursday at our monthly tfs Core meeting, Jason continued our series called WALK by preaching from Philippians 2:12-13 on the topic of sanctification. We don’t work to gain God’s favor, but rather to prove his favor on us.
Jason began a new series entitled “WALK” for the tfs Core meetings. This first night he preached from Zechariah 3:1-5, telling us that our walk starts with “having been justified.”
This Thursday marked the kickoff of our monthly Core meetings for tfs. After a time of passionate worship, Jason preached from John 12:20-26 on what it means to die in order to live.
A number of us from our College/Singles Ministry, TwentyFour:Seven (tfs), just returned from a conference called NEXT. This year NEXT was in Orlando, FL and couldn’t have been held at a nicer facility (not hyperbole). However, what surpassed the facility was the content of the messages. The conference focus was on Jesus being supreme over all things including the arts, literature, creation, science, philosophy, etc…
I would encourage you all to listen to at least one of the NEXT Conference Messages (if you listen to just one I would recommend Jeff Purswell on having a Christian worldview in a non-Christian world).
Jason continued his 4-part series on A Better Vision at the Core meeting this Thursday. This third installment from Psalm 119 highlights the eagerness of God for us to find him and the eagerness we should have in return.
Here is part 2 in a 4-part series titled “A Better Vision.” Jason preached this Core message from Luke 23 and showed us that in order to delight in God, you must begin at the Cross.
Jason decided to take a break from the book of Mark to expand on the theme we’ve seen in Mark of the need to grasp a better vision of Jesus. This first message, from Psalm 37:4, focuses on why we need to have a better view of Him.
Jason shared this message with the singles this week which brings out the dangers of being too familiar with Christ and the gospel – a very helpful and convicting topic for anyone, especially those who were raised in the church.
Jim Hubek brought this message to the tfs singles from Mark 5 highlighting our need to be desperate before Jesus.
